Myriad.social AMA

we hosted an amazing AMA with Myriad.social on the 14th of October

And here we will put some of the best questions:

Q1. Can you introduce yourself to our community?

Hello everyone, my name is Agustinus Theodorus. I am the ambassador for the Myriad Social community. I have a background in software engineering and I was always intrigued with the concept of social media.

Q2. Can you briefly tell us what is Myriad.social ?

In a nutshell, as a user-owner social media where you can tip both native and non-native content, and turn what belongs to you into NFTs. That said, the concept is evolving, especially with the metaverse and we’re heading towards becoming a larger, more connectable platform.

The longer version is that Myriad is a web3 social platform, that comes on the top of web2 social media.

Right now, it’s a platform that allows you to do several things including tipping user’s posts, but also tipping posts from web2 social media. If the author of those posts aren’t on Myriad yet, they can claim their tips once they’ve joined in and claimed their social media timeline.

But of course it doesn’t stop there. There are many features to comes:

  • Turning your content into NFTs
  • Following social media content from within Myriad
  • Creating DAO managed communities
  • and of course OUR METAVERSE!

Myriad is based on a dual architecture, federated for content, and blockchain-based for transaction and NFT related tech, and on the decentralized front, one of our most important guideline is to make Myriad owned by its users via its overarching DAO.

On the maker side, we’re planning to keep the platform as open as possible so developers can code modules to customize Myriad in new exciting ways, or simply to turn its interface pink if so they decide 😀

So basically Myriad is the Web3 transition from web2 that will be useful and fun for content creators (because monetization, NFTs and all those good things), and useful and fun for communities (because censorship resistant, federated, and community DAOs).

One little note about advertisement, we have that, too, but that’s an opt-in and that’s curated by users. So basically we’re trying to engage users to strive for quality both in content and in advertisement.

Last but not least, Myriad.Social is the start of the Myriad ecosystem. It’s followed by our metaverse and soon our decentralized chat, and then every possible application that can leverage user’s interactions and inventories on the platform.

Q3. Let’s now talk about the milestones you have achieved so far and about your upcoming plans?

An alpha version has been a available for a while now (testnet). You can visit it here: https://app.stg.myriad.systems/

Our next push is going to include several drastic enhancements before the end of the year. You’re going to see a few major changes:

  • NFT capabilities
  • Following social media from Myriad
  • User curated content discovery (Experience)
  • And more!

We’re also going IDO before the end of the year, too.

Another milestone that’s rather important is the inclusion of our metaverse. This isn’t accessible to the public yet, but it’s already pretty usable, and super cute, too.

Q4. Every project has a story behind their name, Can you tell us more about the story behind this? Who are the team behind this project? can tell us their background?

The project was ideated three years ago, but the execution started in Q2 2020. Our most ambitious goal is to dethrone existing big social media players 😀 No cap! We plan to make social media free for everyone, and not manipulated by big enterprises. we have a team of >20 developers with various backgrounds in IT. EIGHT of them are certified blockchain professionals. Other than that, in terms of advisory, we have global advisors with knowledge varying from politics, social, economy, education, and others!

Our cofounding team itself is also a kickass one! Our CEO, Danny, is a veteran blockchain expert with years of experience. Heck, he even wrote one of the earliest whitepapers back then. Our CTO, Gilang, has helped consulted enterprises and startups who want to venture into blockchain.

Q5. NFT is one of the hottest and most sought-after topics in the blockchain space right now. Can you share your opinion on NFT with us? Do you think NFT will disrupt the current financial system? What is Myriad.social’s approach to the NFT sector?

Basically, NFTs now as seen as ‘digital collectibles’. But NFTs are much more than that. Technically, NFT means Non Fungible Token, which means that the value of a unit can vary on its own. The reason it’s not fungible, is because it can contain certain variable that differ from a token to another. If I mint a token GILANG with hair, and a token GILANG without hair, they are both NFTs with the same standard, but maybe one is going to be more expensive than the other. Probably the one with hair. I’m using hair as an example because really the variables can be anything, it doesn’t have to be pictures.

So, at this point, on Myriad, you’ll find, of course, NFT for digital art, and multimedia, if you’re into collecting. BUT, you can basically turn anything you produce on Myriad into an NFT and that include your posts, comments, and your profile. IT can be done for many reasons, for added value, trade and exchange, of course, but also for provenance, or because you want to immortalize an epic quote on the Blockchain, or because you want your Profile to be a social-clout backed NFT. Communities can also be tokenized. If you own a server, it’s going to operate on its own DAO, if so you wish, via tokens or NFTs.

So basically it opens a lot of ways for creators to monetize, besides just receiving tips, and it helps community managers to do their things.

And here we will put best questions from our members and Myriad.social fans:

Q1) Myriad is a chain of applications on the Octopus network. My question is, How has it helped you so far to increase the level of performance generated for users? What are the particularities of Octopus that have helped your project and why did you choose it instead of BSC or ETH ?

The reason we went with Octopus Network is because of interoperability. It is inline with Myriad’s goal of being portable and to be available in multiple ecosystems. The Octopus Network helps streamline this process to make everything easier, plus it’s also serves as a platform (while still being decentralized) making it easy for us to have support on our blockchain if needed.

Q2) Myriad social, which focuses on the ability to interact much more directly with the public, also offers the ability to generate revenue depending on how good the content is published, but these features that many social networks try to do, why is Myriad different ?

Myriad Social has a multitude or should I say ‘Myriad’ (pun intended) ways for us to monetize our content, mainstream social media usually gives us the option of making money through ads and tips, but rarely do they give us the authority over our own page. For example, you might be able to post on your Facebook page but it’s not actually yours per se. If you post something that’s against their guidelines your post can be deleted instantly.

With Myriad however, it will be completely different because you OWN a Myriad node by running it on your private VPS. You no longer need approval from ANYONE. Add this to the decentralized advertising scheme we have surrounding our pages, you can get revenue from regular ads, tips, and even sponsorships on your social media page.

Oh and by the way, because Myriad allows you to curate your own page, we call them ‘experiences’ not ‘page’ so if you ever stumble upon a doc about Myriad mentioning experiences it is interchangeable with a social media page.

Q3) Myriad users have unique decentralized tools that hand sovereignty back to its users”. So could you explain a bit more about it? What does this idea give to users and what do you mean by #ExperienceCrafting ?

ExperienceCrafting means that you can create and curate your own social media ‘experience’ in Myriad. You no longer have to be afraid of content moderation especially if you are running the server. Also even though you are running a Myriad server independently your posts can still be seen by users from other Myriad nodes (if the other server owners allow your content there).

Myriad allows their users to be very picky, while also allows their users to have a very broad range of content. The sovereignty part is mainly this, the ability to own your content and publish it without any supervision.

Q4) what are your future plans for this…. project and what are the benefits for…. members working on this project ?

So, our plans for the future is to make Myriad a platform for everything social, but web3 version.
It means…

See it like this, when you go out, with a backpack or a purse. You carry things. Money, objects. You also wear clothes, right (hopefully?)

If you go meet a friend in another city, you don’t have to change your close or buy again the stuff that’s in your bag, or change your money for the city’s money. You just use what you have on you.

On Myriad, we want to make it so whatever you use that Myriad is compatible with (as many services and apps as possible is our goal), you can keep what’s yours and use it everywhere. Your username, your NFTs, chat history, transaction history, tokens and so on and so forth.
Right now, its on Myriad.Social, Metaverse and Chat that we’re focusing our attention, but it doesn’t prevent any 3rd party, later, to develop on the top of Myriad’s data to offer something more or different.

Also, we’re doing that not only to foster digital well being, but also communities. Myriad has the potential to become a community of communities, just like the Internet is a network of networks..

Q5) What is the type of governance that is implemented in Myriad Social, tell us a little about it and also tell us, what elements make you address the hyperscale ?

Myriad is federated, meaning that it has a sharded governance structure for every server. Myriad is a federated social network that is made to help you curate your social media feed, for server owners, it can be used to create new communities, and create a network-of-networks between multiple Myriad nodes.

Although, I have to admit governing over a multitude of servers on a single social media experience is quite hard. This goes double for Myriad, being decentralized and all. But the team believes that an automated system doesn’t really solve the issue as well, it can even exacerbate the issue by censoring legit content and allowing bad content to go through.
Each server owner has the right to host anything they want, and to disallow anything they don’t want, that’s what makes Myriad federated. Imagine that you have different states in a country. Each state has their own laws, their own communities, their own values. That is Myriad.

Our governance system scales because of the community within, not because of the Myriad team itself.

Q6) Can you point out some cool features of Myriad_social that will differentiate it from other competitors? What competitive advantage of Myriad_social makes you confident that you will outperform the competing platforms?
Are there any incentives to use Myriad_Social?

A few of my favorite features from Myriad:

  • Myriad is built on top of Facebook, Twitter, and other Mainstream Social Media (MSM) as ironic that it sounds. We want to create a seamless experience for users to migrate into Myriad by being able to get posts from their old platforms directly on Myriad.
  • Myriad doesn’t implement any algorithmic feeds, but you are free to extend your own Myriad node as you wish.
  • Myriad has a decentralized monetizing system, making you the owner of your own feed, allowing you to post your favourite content without the threat of the ban hammer.
  • Myriad isn’t only a “replacement” of MSM but a new experience, you can use Myriad however you like, as your new social media or just one of your many platforms.

Best part: You can receive tips on Myriad even though you haven’t signed up yet (we have an escrow system) but keep this between us okay?

Q7) Partnership is always an important issue for every project. So who is your partner? Do you think your project will have a lot of NFT usage? Why should we take NFT seriously?

We are partnering with the Octopus Network at the moment. Because of the interoperability feature they offer. And we are also partnering with Unique. One and RealityChain.

Unique. One is an NFT Marketplace, yes, we take NFTs seriously. You can even make NFTs out of your Myriad posts. RealityChain is our metaverse project, it used to be named 2dverse if you want to check it out.

We want to make Myriad about EVERYTHING social. So you have a one stop shop (but it’s decentralized).

Q8) Is your project only for english speaking countries or do you have any community for non english speaking users too?

We are decentralized and our main concept is to have thriving communities like this one for example on Myriad. You can have English, French, Japanese, Arab servers on Myriad because that is our goal.

Q9) Many projects start but get stuck along the way, could you tell me if you plan to stay active and offer projects and opportunities to the community in the long term?

Yes that is very true, Myriad is currently being developed by Blocksphere, but our governance architecture allows you to vote for the next tech developer for Myriad (at least this is what we plan to do at the time being). To make the community active we plan to make Myriad open source and extensible, giving you guys the tools to make and improve Myriad is the best thing we can do to help make a great social media experience.

Q10) What is your plan for thaglobal expansion? At present, which market odoes focus on, or is it focused on building and growing to gain customers, users and partners?

No, we don’t have plans for “global expansion”. If you like Myriad, you are free to join, if you don’t then you’re just missing out on a lot, lol.
Jokes aside, Myriad is intended to be used by the global community, and because it’s decentralized we don’t really have any “expansionist” plans about it, you can fork Myriad on Github and make your own version if you’d like.
Currently, we are focusing on our IDO in a few months, so we are essentially focusing on our products first. We have great partners like the Octopus Network, Unique. One and Reality Chain so that’s a plus. Furthermore, you can test out our demo here: https://app.stg.myriad.systems/
