PKT AMA

we hosted an amazing AMA with PKT on the 18th of March

And here we will put some of the best questions:

Q1. Can you please introduce yourselves as well as PKT ?

I developed the cjdns decentralized networking protocol
So I’m Caleb James DeLisle, I’ve been working in decentralized and open source technology since 2011
The objective of cjdns has always been to make it possible to decentralize the role of the internet service provider
Which is designed to make a functioning network even if some of the routers in the network are not trusted
to make it possible for individials to own and operate their own pieces of internet infrastructure
Between 2013 and 2018 I worked in research, doing technology projects funded by the French and Europen governments
In this space, I launched the CryptPad project
Near-instant, near-free payments are an absolute necessity for anything that is going to be used to price bandwidth
Then around 2018 I came back to cjdns because at that time the Lightning Network technology had adaquately matured to allow fo us soon to have instant micro-payments
So around 2018 I started working with a group of colleagues on a new project which would become PKT
The first blockchain ever based on PacketCrypt, the world’s first bandwidth hard proof of work algorithm.

Q2. What are the advantages of Your project ?

It’s a bit cliché, but think about how Uber disrupted the traditional taxi services by making it so that regular people could be the drivers and provide their own cars as the cabs, PKT aims to make it so that regular people can own and operate pieces of internet infrastructure such as wireless antennas or fiber optic cables – and make money from them.
So our vision, what we are trying to accomplish, is to break up internet service monopolies by decoupling the role of the “infrastructure provider” from the internet service provider, so that regular people can become infrastructure providers with minimal technical knowledge.

Q3. please tell us about the goal you want to achieve in this year.

The way the project is laid out, we intend to first make it possible to get on a VPN
Using an app, the app now is in alpha testing, I use it on my phone every day, but it is not production yet.
Once it reaches production readyness, we will then aim to make it possible to use a hardware device to share internet with people in your neighborhood
And with the app, they will connect to the hardware device – and the security of cjdns will protect the user of the app from the owner of the hardware device, and vice versa.
Once this is functioning we will be working on adding the capability to pay with PKT to increase one’s speed.
Speed of the connection

Q4. Every project has a story behind their name, Can you tell us more about the story behind this? Who are the team behind this project? can tell us their background?

The story really begins in around 2007-2008 when I was living at my dad’s house in a rural area, we only had dial-up internet and while the websites were slowly loading, I would look across the valley at the neighbor’s house in the distance and think to my self: “If only we could run the internet on our own”
One wireless connection to the next, an antenna, a fiber, we could own the internet, we don’t need to wait for the telephone company to provide it
That slowly evolved into cjdns, which evolved into PKT, which brings me to where I am today

Q5. NFT is one of the hottest and most sought-after topics in the blockchain space right now. Can you share your opinion on NFT with us? Do you think NFT will disrupt the current financial system? What is Your project’s approach to the NFT sector?

Oh oh oh, everyone loves to ask me about NFTs
I’m an old bitcoiner, I think they’re a scam 😛
But seriously, there is a type of NFT that has real value in my opinion, that is an NFT which represents a piece of valuable real world property
And we are planning on using NFT technology in PKT for the purpose of representing “bandwidth leases” (i.e. the right to use a certain amount of bandwidth

And here we will put best questions from our members and PKT fans:

Q1
The PKT Network is operated entirely by the people who participate. What are the tools that will allow PKT to reduce the barriers to entry to the world of Internet service? How attractive will the incentives be? How affordable will the rates offered by PKT be?

So the PKT ecosystem is very much focused on bringing in BUSINESSES. We need people to provide support and assistance and great user experiences and everything that makes a product a product. We can’t build the future of the internet as an open source project only, so by bringing in businesses we expect that they will be the ones who make PKT accessible to the wider community.

Q2
The PKT ecosystem aims to solve the problem of monopolization of Internet access by ISPs. What new solutions will it bring to compete with these ISPs that have monopolized a large part of the Internet market? How can you to all corners of the world?

Like I said, it’s a bit similar to the consept of Uber, we build a technology which others can leverage in order to build the internet together.
However, unlike Uber, we do not try to be 1 company ruling over everything, the PKT blockchain is open to any business who wants to participate, so there can be many “Ubers” all competing for the same “Drivers” using open standards.

Q3
PKT is a continuation of the open source CJDNS mesh network project, which allows anyone to get an IP address without a central publisher. So,could you please tell us about the CJDNS mesh project and what contribution you have made to improve this project you are continuing with?

One of the biggest things we did as part of the PKT project was we re-wrote the cjdns route server into Rust programming language. We’re also working on slowly porting cjdns itself to Rust, but parts of the code will be C for a very long time. Another thing we did was to migrate the encryption algorithm of cjdns from the C based code to Rust code which is based on the WireGuard VPN protocol.
The next major things we need to do to cjdns will be to add in auto-connect over wifi and add the ability to tokenize and lease sub-allocations of bandwidth.

Q4
Can you explain the background of your “#pkt_cash” team? How will you and your team carry out this project during this current pandemic?

The pandemic was one of our biggest challenges, we launched thie project in August of 2019 and before we could get funding into the first company which was part of the PKT ecosystem, the whole world turned upside-down.
But the vision has kept the team together and we have struggled through adverisity, now we have reached a big milestone being finally listed on Bittrex and Bitmart exchanges.

Q5. From @AlunaNadaIndah

Talking about mining using “PacketCrypt”. Can you elaborate on the difference between the two stages of mining “announcement mining and block mining”? And What does the concept of “Priority packet” look like with regards to the PKT network?

What I can say for this community is that by now, everyone is as tough as nails.
The way PKT is designed with bandwidth leases, you will be able to allocate a certain amount of bandwidth and then represent it as a token (NFT 🙂 ) that can be bought and sold in a marketplace. Once someone buys that token, they will then be able to request your cjdns node to configure that bandwidth so they can use it.
Ok so these are actually two different things, I’m going to talk about packet priority though because it is the more interesting one.
The way priority works is when a packet flows through a link that does not have much PRIORITY, the packet’s priority is decreased
Packet priority is about protecting this virtual network that they build from their users, who may want to use a lot of bandwidth.
This allows for what we call a “free tier”, that is, ability to use bandwidth for free without paying anything for it, as long as nobody else is using the bandwidth at the same time.
and then the packet is only dropped if there is actual network congestion – that is to say, PKT never drops data unless

no way to avoid it.

Q6
🔥 PKT Cash is a cryptocurrency that is minted every 60 seconds and is paid to people who prove they have bandwidth and crypto the PKT network. What are the options for participation if you do not have the infrastructure?

  1. Even a small amount of bandwidth will allow you to mine a small amount of PKT
  2. Develop open source software for helping us advance the project
  3. Talk to people about PKT and how important it is that we keep the internet free and open for everyone

Q7
Binance Smart Chain offers low fees, fast transaction speeds, and reliable services that are easy to use. Do you have any plan to migrate BSC or other chains? my lord

There is a bridge which “wraps” PKT onto BSC chain. This bridge is operated by an independent company called Obea – which shows the robustness of the decentralized PKT ecosystem.

Q8
Are you planning to promote your project in countries / regions where English is not good? Do you have a local community for them to better understand your project??

The plan is that businesses who want to start up with the PKT technology in these countries can take the technology there, and people in the PKT ecosystem will help them succeed. the PKT ecosystem is is focused on, collaboration, business, and making great software to empower people.

Q9
Can you explain how is your Tokenomics Distribution? How many tokens Will be minted ? And How many tokens Will be locked by the team? Questions answer me

There’s no pre-mine, no investors, no team, everything is part of an open community just like with Bitcoin. You might think this can’t work but we have real technology to show you otherwise.

Q10
ARE you a global project or local project? At present, which market are you focus on, or is it focused on building and growing to gain customers, users and partners???ARE you a global project or local project? At present, which market are you focus on, or is it focused on building and growing to gain customers, users and partners???

We have significant community members in: US, UK, Europe and Brazil and we have some people from other places as well. We welcome people around the world are invited to get involved.
